I guess I haven't written on this in a few months. To me it's pretty obvious why but likely not to you. Here's the low-down...
-Took a trip to Seattle to visit James and tour Microsoft
-Bought a house
-Had some pretty major issues at work I had to contend with
That's pretty much the summary of my last few months in a nutshell. Buying a house has been very stressful, yet a very exciting step in my life. On the note of stress, work has been overwhelming. I still love my job, but the last two months have been absolutely draining. I'm starting to get burnt out and of course it doesn't help to read in the ChE magazine that I'm grossly underpaid compared to my peers in both the environmental engineering realm as well as compared to those I graduated with. Yeah, needless to say it's been a tough year financially, I suppose that just comes with getting older.
I have to admit that sadly I just haven't had much for ideas on what to write in here. I'm kind of lacking all forms of inspiration right now. My sex life is non-existent, mainly because it seems like there isn't anyone in this city worth giving half a shit about (save my best friend of course). Frankly I'm getting board with Austin again. I seem to go through these phases where I really just want to pack up, move out, and start over....now is one of those times.
I don't regret buying a house here and officially settling, I still love my job, but I just wish the entirety of the gay population of Austin would turn-over and refresh itself. I feel like I'm in the bottom capitol of the world and what little tops there are to go around are either worthless losers, or too interested in what's young and dumb.
I had a long conversation last night with a straight friend of mine about the difficulties of dating in the gay community here in austin, especially for someone at my age who is heads above everyone from a maturity stand point. Thankfully I'm starting to find older guys attractive, but it's been a challenge to meet people I'm even remotely interested in.
All of this stress, financial struggles, and relationship struggles have left me even more bitter than I used to be. I'm really trying to fight it but it's very challenging. I find myself wanting to just sit at home by myself all the time. I still greatly enjoy the company of my friends, but for some reason I just lack the motivation to organize anything or get people together. perhaps it's the long gruesome hours at work the past 3-weeks, I don't know. Thank god I have Nathan around to keep me socializing or I'd probably become a vegetable.
I suppose on a happier note I had a pretty good day at work today. A project that I was working on and was scared to ask for the funding for given recent events at work was actually approved sometime last week while one of the design engineers was working on it and pushing it through while I was occupied. It will be a nice feather in my cap for the year (another $100,000 in annual savings to add to my tally, I think that brings it to just over $750,000 in annual savings I've earned for the company). On top of that I was given a pretty resounding kudos from upper management today on how I handled the recent events that have plagued my work responsibilities for the past three weeks.
I've got it on my schedule to take Mondays and Fridays off for the rest of August, which should provide for an easy going month. 4-day weekends are always enjoyable. I'm afraid I have absolutely no funds to do any of the work that I've wanted to do around the house so it's likely that I'll just have lots of a lone time. I'll probably go to Barnes and Noble and find a book to read. Work on my yoga and probably meditate a bit. hopefully I can pull myself out of the funk pretty quickly. Here's hoping all this time off will give me a fresh outlook on things.

One step at a time.
As 2008 comes to a close it's time too take a look back at everything, and hopefully reflect on some things for the new year.
Work:
Work has kept me both sane, and insane this year. I must admit I never would have expected achieving as much as I have and moving forward I'm excited about what the new year will bring. In March my department suffered a round of layoffs which forced me to move from an Austin-wide role to a more site specific role at Oak Hill managing the water and air programs. I've attempted to retain some of my previous responsibilities, but that is proving to be more difficult than I had anticipated. I'm glad for the change as I'm finally doing what I was hired for and what I went to school for. More notably this year I have personally contributed over $270,000 in cost savings to my organization within the company with nearly $500,000 in indirect contributions. Overall since I started working for the company I have broken past the $600,000 mark in annual savings that is realized as a direct result of my efforts. My department has won several awards this year that I submitted for including the Keep Texas Beautiful Business Award, the Austin Business Journal Going Green Award, and various Austin Water Conservation awards. Another exciting achievement; since I took over environmental compliance we have had zero notices of violation!
Earlier this month I was notified that I would be nominated by Freescale for the New Faces in Engineering recognition put on by the Engineer's Week Foundation. Low and behold, after reaching several milestones in the process I will be among about 8 other "New Faces" of 2009! I am representing both Freescale and the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP); So keep a look out for the USA Today Article in February!
Speaking of gay, I'm slowly but surely coming out at work. It's not something I want to just exude as to not hinder my future career, but several people in the office have asked about it and most of the group that I work with (if not all) at Oak Hill know. It's almost refreshing, but at the same time nerve wracking. Hopefully it will at the least help to make everyone more comfortable knowing that someone they are close to is gay.
Family
This year has been a trying one for me. There is the usual drama on my dad's side of course while on my mom's side I have lost a cousin to alcohol poisoning and an uncle to heart disease (he leaves behind his wife and three kids). Otherwise for the most part things outside of the immediate family have been standard operating procedures.
Sometime in March or April my father was diagnosed with a rare form of skin cancer/blood disease; so rare in fact that when he goes to the doctor there are usually a team of them observing in the background. He has been undergoing some light-therapy treatment (essentially a VERY strong tanning bed, as in more than 60 seconds and you're burnt). They know it won't cure him but they are hoping to at least keep it from worsening. He very well could live a good many years; however, it has spread through much of his body so there is really no telling. At this point I'm not really sure what to think. My father and I have never been very close; I hate to see him go but I'm not going to worry about it until the time comes.
In August my parents decided to take in a foreign exchange student from Slovakia. Anna, lives with them now and will continue to live here until June when she moves back home. She is a senior in High School and is looking forward to graduation in the spring. I must admit, she is a very humble and interesting person to talk to. I'm looking forward to spending more time with her this coming year.
All-in-all my immediate family is doing well. Mom and Dad are still happy together and working the same jobs. My sister now works at my old stomping grounds, Austin's Pizza. She is a 3rd-year with Senior Credits at UT majoring in Math and Kinesiology, and make very good grades I might add. Tomorrow morning we are all leaving on a trek through the mid-west to end at Kansas City to visit my dad's family for my grandmother's birthday on January 1st. I'm already looking forward to being back home though.
Relationships
In all honesty this year seems to have been a relatively uneventful one. I dated one guy for about 6 weeks and he ended it because he wasn't feeling it anymore. Looking back I can't say that I blame him, but it did hurt at the time. My promiscuous phase came to an end early this year and stayed that way throughout. I think given my intense working schedule and focus combined with being out of college my game has suffered a bit, but I'm not letting it get me down. I'm planning to approach 2009 with a more laid back approach to meeting that one guy, I figure he'll turn up when it's time and not a moment too soon.
Friendships
This has been an interesting year for friends. For the most part I have kept touch with all of those that are the most important to me. Nathan has of course been an unwavering pillar for me through it all and having him here is one of the biggest reasons I haven't gone completely off the deep end yet. Jack has remained a very close and loyal friend this year despite a few challenges early on, but we are better for it. Many close friends have come and gone; James R, James C, Austin, and some others; while I have also gained many new ones; Kris, Alex, & Tyler.
Overall I must admit my relationship with Austin has suffered greatly this year. Perhaps it's living together that has caused it, but it didn't seem to start until after May when he finished college. He now has a new boyfriend Dustin who has and still is shaping and moulding him into the perfect guy...the only problem is it's not the same Austin. We have really drifted apart these past few months but mostly because I feel like I don't even know him anymore. I think it's important to realize that throughout life friends will drift in and out, but that doesn't mean they don't leave their mark. I will always love Austin and he has been a very wonderful friend.
Time to forge ahead
With 2008 coming to a close I welcome 2009 with open arms. I'm looking forward to a new president, and a hopefully better economy. Perhaps the most important thing I've learned this year is how quickly everything can change, and how impossible it is to be prepared for all of the outcomes. I hope to enter 2009 with a more realistic and laid back approach to life. I want to branch out more, volunteer for HRC, fight for gay rights, make new friends, and cherish friends I already have.
Given everything new and exciting about next year I don't think anyone will be able to predict where it goes. 525,600 minutes is a long time with so many possibilities. This year one song in particular has stood out to me, "One Step at a Time" by Jordan Sparks sums up how I want to approach life from now on. In general I know where I'd like to be but the path is unknown. It is important to take each step one at a time, and that's how I plan to move through the next 12 months; savoring all 525,600 minutes of it. Where I'll end up is anyone's guess, but I plan to make getting there ALL the fun.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Love Always,
Rob

Finally...a good day...
So far today has been pretty good, finally.
So it's been a drab few weeks, but I think things are looking up. The stock market is doing well because the election is tonight, and not to mention I was in a much better mood this morning.
I got to work and walked around with Bridget for a while helping her distribute table fliers for the upcoming blood drive at work and she asked how things were. I spoke with her at length about my recent relationship woes and she seemed to really put things in perspective (not to mention saying "he" when referring to eric). So she now knows I'm gay which is pretty relieving. she mentioned that I should find a rebound and I jokingly responded, if only Armando didn't bat for the wrong team..lol
So while I was at my desk eating lunch and refreshing my memory on solving systems of non-linear equations my boss pulled me aside and informed me that I would be receiving a $500 bonus on my next pay check!!!! It was because of the cost savings project I initiated this year that saves $250,000 a year for our organization! I was pretty stoked because I honestly didn't expect it at all. He also gave me an Auss Buck (basically a coupon to get a $10 visa gift card from the admin) for my help on the surprise US DOT audit last week. All-in-all you could say today was a great day so far.
Tonight I'm planning to go to a few election day parties with the guy I met at the Halloween party so that should be fun.
Here's to more good days!

Tuck Fech and Drink Up!
Wow...lol
So for the Texas vs Texas Tech game last night Austin and I decided we were going to host a watching party. It all started with a mass texas message and ended with mass drinking. What a night!
"We all know Tech sucks more than a whore on dollar day...but to prove it, come on down to my place with a sixer, I'll supply the meat, and watch texas beat the hell outta texas tech! Kickoff at 7 pm"
As people arrived they were greeted by my pumpkin creation from Halloween...

As we all gathered around the grill I cooked Fajitas, Burgers, and Dogs. It was quite the smorgasbord of meats. At that point I was already quite intoxicated...most likely due to the two very large very strong Tom Collins I drank before grilling. As we reached the second half Tech was giving us a pretty tough time but we were not about to give up. After making a needed beer run and buying 6 additional cases for the group, I ran upstairs and grabbed every texas cap, T-shirt, and my boots and stetson. I threw things into the hordes of people (about 20 at that point) insisting that everyone don something orange. lol, I was REALLY intoxicated at this point.
The dream team decided it was picture time (Austin, Nathan, and me). We take our Texas Football seriously...

From here on out I don't remember much. I think at one point Brittany and Naomi were taking their clothes off and running around topless, we had just lost the game in the last play :(, and most of the crowd had dissipated. Here is where the funny starts though...I apparently texted eric...and here is what I had to say....
Rob-"btw...what you said to me...pretty much was the meanest thing ever...btw"
eric-long message saying something about why he said what he said
me, realizing I was drunk and shouldn't have said anything cuz I probably wouldn't remember it in the morning responded:
"Eric...sorry soddy soddy. Um drink please please don't be mead at me pweats"
"We teottau beet Texas tech tuck tech!!!"
"Sorry skerry"

so last but certainly not least we got up this morning to clean up the mess...and here is what we found by the door...

I think it's safe to say that even if we lost...I had a blast...here's to good times!

Engadget, you crack me up
So I read this article on engadget today talking about how movie companies are going after the new Real Player software for it's ability to rip and archive DVDs. I thought one line in this article was particularly funny where the author is giving a hint to the movie industry...I think the music industry should probably also follow suit.
Here's a hint, guys: if you believe the temptation to do something is that strong, it probably means you can get people to pay to do it -- and you should probably be working out a business model that embraces consumers instead of funding new BMWs for your lawyers while actual piracy tears down the fragile house of cards your entire industry is built on. Or you know, whatever.

ACL in a nutshell
So as you may have already guessed this weekend was ACL. I must say it almost lived up to the Dust-bowl of 2005...and overall I would have to give it a 8 out of 10 compared to the past 3 years I have gone. That being said it was not without it's great fun and music!
Friday - Day 1:
1. Asleep at the Wheel - a blues band, not too shabby.
2. What Made Milwaukee Famous - a sort-of rock band. not all that impressive.
3. Yeasayer - not all that impressive.
4. Vampire Weekend - This band was great! Seemed like a fun group with a pretty exciting show and decent playlist.
5. Patty Griffin - a country artist. I'm not a huge fan
6. Jenny Lewis - kinda of folk-rock. Great, I mean she had such a fun show. Good lyrics, nice mix of songs.
7. The Swell Season - These guys were pretty good. The sort of thing I would put on for a relaxing mood.
8. The Mars Volta - boo, I was not impressed. Very much a 1970's throwback kinda feel
9. Manu Chao - This seemed to be an interesting mix of spanish/rock kindof music. He was ok.
After the bands, later that night I met up with Eric at Anthony's place then went home with him only to have him hug the toilet all night :(... That crazy kid needs to watch his drinking.
Saturday - Day 2:
1. The Fritellis - typical rock band. they were ok.
2. Jose Gonzales - nothing really sticks out about this one. it was ok.
3. The Driveby Truckers - I thought these guys were pretty good. Had kind of a folkish-rock feel
4. Band of Heathens - meh
5. Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings - Wow, She was so much fun!! got an audience member up on stage to dance with! lol definately a jazzy Amy Winehouse feel to it.
6. City and Colour - rock band from Canada. I thought he was great! awesome show, good commentary.
7. MGMT - these guys were ok.
8. John Fogerty - He was a Creedeance Clearwater revival. Pretty good show! I liked it.
9. Iron and Wine - boo...I was pretty dissapointed.
10. Robert Plant and Allison Krause - This x-led Zeplin member with the singer/songwriter from O' Brother Where Art Though made an interesting combination. I liked it.
11. Beck - Great, as was expected
Saturday night I had a bunch of friends over for an after party. No one stayed too long (which was good b/c I was sooo tired), but we had some beers and chilled. Eric backed out b/c he was sick, and I was a bit disappointed over that too. The dust was pretty aweful today. couldn't see very far and I could just taste the grittiness.
Sunday - Day 3:
1. Belleville Outfit - my friend Sam is dating the lead singer. They were playing when we came in and sounded pretty good and fun.
2. Octopus Project - LMAO! these guys were...different...had the Austin High band play a few songs at the beggning with them. totally instrumental group, no vocals.
3. Adelle - following in the footsteps of Amy Winehouse two years ago, and Buffy last year...she pulled a no show...BITCH!
4. Massacoustics - Awesome band. the drummer was also a back-up singer and bass player...at the same time...literally
5. Stars - these guys were ok...nothing to write home about... (lol, ironic that I would write that as I'm writting about them).
6. Against Me - meh
7. Xavier Rudd - This guy was pretty cool. Played a dijery doo (spelling?) and was a great band.
8. Neko Case - Country, not my thing but not bad
9. The Heartless Bastards - these guys weren't too bad...
10. Blues Travelor - I liked this group. Fun to listen to.
11. White Denim - meh
12. South Austin Jug Band - these guys were ok. very much folk music.
13. Gnarles Barkely - he was ok. Don't know if I could listen to his whole concert though.
14. Galactic - great Jazz group from New Orleans!
15. Band of Horses - meh
So today wasn't my favorite. We bounced back and forth between a lot of groups and only heard a few songs from most of them. I really did like massacoustics and Galactic. Octopus project was fun too. one highlight of the day was this couple during White Denim that was arguing in front of us. The girl kept yelling and shoving the guy! then they stormed off and met up again later and cried. We also saw a guy in a knitted one-piece bell-bottomed outfit that he wore last year (I remember because it was just so odd).
The weekend was definitely fun. As always (with one exception) the food was AMAZING! and the boys...or lawdy lawd...there were just oh so many half-naked boys.....dear god it was like I had died and gone to hell...(they were almost all straight) lol...but it was such a wonderfully scenic hell.
The dust this year was also really bad. I work up every morning sneezing black goo and coughing up dirt...I'm sure tomorrow morning will be the worst yet as today was the worst for dust.
My next mission will be of course to start the downloading extravaganza...got to support those artists I liked and get copies of their albums :) Anyway I can't wait to see what next year has in store...here's hoping for a Regina Spektor encore and maybe Incubus?!?!? lol
My next mission will be of course to start the downloading extravaganza...got to support those artists I liked and get copies of their albums :) Anyway I can't wait to see what next year has in store...here's hoping for a Regina Spektor encore and maybe Incubus?!?!? lol

Helpless and Humbled
I know this is a few days late but I just wanted to take some time to tell everyone about my day on Friday.
12:00 am
The day so far seemed to be going quite well. I was at the club with my boyfriend (wow it feels so weird to say that), and we were dancing and having a good time. He seemed to have a really rough day on thursday so I was glad to be there and see him smile. I could tell he really needed someone. The poor guy works so so so much and goes to school. The stress is really getting to him and it sucks, because I have been there and feel so helpless to do anything for him. Things that evening were going well until Eric's friend began being a drama queen and was pissing off the guy he's dating (Steven). I could see that even Eric was getting pissed and after taking everyone home Eric told me that he really just wanted to be alone. I must admit this was pretty upsetting because I really wanted to be there for him but he didn't want me there. I wasn't mad at him by any stretch, just frustrated and feeling helpless just isn't my cup of tea. Either way it didn't matter so I went home and went to bed.
6:00 am
Wow waking up for work was difficult! I really need to quit going out and drinking on weeknights lol. I'm thinking about going to 4-10's next year where I would work 4-10 hour days Mon - Thurs, while then having every Friday off.
7:30 am
So I got to work and the day was going well (minus the hangover). My day was just booked full of meetings which is always difficult, and at
9:00 am
I had a meeting to discuss the design plans for our new waste chemical collection system and I didn't realize there would be so many cross-functional groups represented. I felt a little embarrassed because my hair was such a mess haha, but by and by I chimed in and made sure that my concerns were captured in the design.
10:00 am
After the meeting I went back to my desk to check email and I saw and email from a colleague in Arizona talking about the pollution control tax deductions project I was working on. It seems that capital spent on pollution control equipment is exemptible from our property taxes. The email went on to congratulate me for achieving a $250,000 per year savings that will continue for as long as we operate in Austin!!! That's a fuck ton of money!! lol After reading the email I looked up to see who else was on the recipient list...it included my boss, the Austin Site Services manager, the Global Site Services Director, the Global EHS manager, the Global head of Finance (who is our openly gay executive that I have met on several occasions), and someone pretty high up in the manufacturing organization. I must say I felt pretty humbled when I received congratulations from many of these people in followup emails (and frankly very excited that people that high up in the company now know me and this HUGE project I did). I did notice though that someone that did a lot of work preparing lists of company assets for me to scour over (over 10,000 line items long) to find pollution control property. I made sure to forward the email to her and thank her and apologize that she was not mentioned in the original email. I also copied her boss and a few others up the ladder.
11:00 am
So the rest of the day was filled with lunch for a coworker's birthday and more meetings. I also went to a happy hour and in general spent some time relaxing at home after that.
I guess sometimes the good outweighs the bad so overall Friday was a very good day. I only hope over time Eric realizes he has me as a crutch and I really want to be there for him, especially when he's having a rough day. Sometimes it's when you want to be alone that you need someone the most. I for one have come to learn that when I feel like being alone all it does it make it worse when I am. Luckily Eric came over last night and was in a much better mood. He stayed the night and we got up and made breakfast this morning. He left for work and I went and cut the grass and now I'm getting ready to take the rest of the day to relax as much as possible. Hopefully you will do the same!

Arms and Armadillos
So I decided to write about two completely random and unrelated things tonight.
The first: Arms
So I have decided to start working out again. It's been nearly 4 months since I last did anything remotely physical. I started last wednesday since I get a free membership at the gym at work and I no longer have the luxury of a gym where I live. Not only is the membership free, but I also get free classes like Yoga, Palates, etc, AND every time I work out I get 5 points which at the end of the year can be traded in for gift cards to places like Academy. I've been working out for about 45 minutes every weekday doing cardio on the elliptical, then weights and rowing. I'm pretty excited about getting back into shape. The personal trainer I have (which is also free..hehe) measured me and said I have 11.1% body fat. Working with him I have some goals to be near 5-6% body fat and gain a few pounds of muscle.
Finally: Armadillos
So I was at work this morning and I saw an armadillo in the court yard. It was much cuter than I ever though armadillos were, and honestly, I haven't really seen on that wasn't dead :(
Anyway I took some pictures for you (below). It was kinda funny actually because not longer after I ran up to take pictures several other by-passers saw as well and I suddenly felt like I was in a zoo...
without further adieu

50 bucks and a bag of charcoal
So I had a bizarre day today, definitely blogworthy...
This morning I attended an award ceremony at City Hall for the 16th annual water conservation and pretreatment compliance awards put on by the city of Austin. In the past 16 years my company has won an award in one of the categories nearly every year. Today we received awards for water conservation (at our Oak Hill site we implemented a project to save nearly 120 thousand gallons of water per day), and pretreatment compliance (our third consecutive win in this category for our Ed Bluestein site). It was fun to have free breakfast and see City Hall for the first time. I must say I really liked the architecture.
After breakfast some coworkers and I headed out to the Ed Bluestein facility to take a look at some waste collection systems that were recently put in place. While on the tour I noticed something on the floor in the hall...something green. There were a lot of people around and everyone seemed to be passing over it like it was nothing, I however stopped to pick it up. It so happened to be two 20's and a 10.. totaling $50 for those who can't add. Needless to say I was pretty stoked about it.
I had planned to spend the rest of the day out at Ed Blue, but a chemical spill at our Oak Hill site called me away...luckily the spill had been remediated and did not cause any environmental compliance issues, but it did take several guys in level B HAZMAT suits with SCBA's to clean it up.
After work I decided to make a stop at HEB because I needed to pick up a few groceries for the week. After checking out I walked to my car and unloaded the cart. As I was putting the cart away I noticed the cart sitting in the space next to me had been left with a brand new bag of charcoal in it!! glancing around to hopefully catch the person that had left it I realized quickly that they were nowhere to be found. I grabbed the bag and headed for home.
All in all it was a pretty luckily and odd day for me. I must admit, I felt guilty about the $50 but had I seen someone drop it I would have gladly given it back to them. Sadly though attempting to return the found money to someone without seeing them drop it would have proven a pointless waste of time, as just about anyone would lay claim to the lost fortune.
So sitting back, 50 bucks and a bag of charcoal richer, I bid you adieu.

What a day...
So I had somewhat of an interesting day today...hmmm...where should I start.
Last week I decided it was time to order business cards. All my contact information has changed as well as my address and I wanted to reflect that on my new business cards. I called my admin and had him order a box of cards for me and when they got here today I made a bitter realization....those fatal words, "environmental engineer" underneath of my job title. "Oops!," I proclaimed. You see, state law prohibits ANYONE from calling themselves an engineer without having a professional engineering license. I am currently working on mine but I won't have it for another 3 years or so. I guess the most frustrating part is we are really trying hard not to spend money as an organization within the company and here I go ordering the wrong thing on my business cards. It was just stressful that I had to reorder them and now I have 250 cards that are basically trash.
So what happened next you ask?!?! lol...
At around 4 pm today I was just about ready to leave my office when I decided I would do one last thing. So I moved some things around and it took me about 15 minutes to try and figure out how to dismantle part of my cubicle because I didn't want it there anymore...and while I'm in the midst of doing that.."wee ooh wee ooh wee ooh wee ooh!!" the siren comes over the CB radio...."Attention Attention, we have a gas detection at the bulk silane system, all responders please go to response channel one!"
That's never good news at 4:15 on a friday...especially not when it's Silane...
Let me break it down.
Silane is a gas that is made up of Silicon and Hydrogen. SiH4 is the chemical formula. This gas, at very low concentrations is EXTREMELY explosive in air. It is simply put, a "pyrophoric." Essentially once this gas comes into contact with oxygen it spontaneously combusts to form water vapor (H2O) and Silicon Dioxide (sand). Not the solid form of sand but the vapor form of sand...
Anyway, bad stuff... We have a bulk delivery system because it keeps the massive amounts we have in storage AWAY from the building...needless to say why...
Well I tuned into the response frequency hoping that I wouldn't have to take IC (incident command). Thankfully someone did that for me. So I continued to listen in incase they needed help while I finished what I was working on. Then the dredful words...."EHS are you on channel?"
"SHIT!" I said. I responded, "EHS go ahead"...So what happened was a detection probe picked up on about 2-3 ppm (parts per million) of silane. However, that probe tends to mess up so they decided to double check with a handheld silane meter. The meter was also reading the same. When I got out there as we were measuring around trying to pick back up on the silane (it had spiked but was no longer picking up), suddenly another spike, this time up to 7, then 13 ppm...(that's actually scary high). the loudest alarms you've ever imagined start blaring and we all start....running...like hell. Luckily nothing happened and once again the detections subsided. However, this was serious. We called out repair technicians and proceeded to shut-down the factory. (about half the factory uses Silane). This is bad news because now it's going to start costing major bucks because we are no longer making product. As they begin to purge the system flames begin shooting out the top of the exhaust vent because the silane is spontaneously combusting. The next few HOURS were spent trying to find where this leak was and it eventually boiled down to a small gasket (about $5) was leaky. So low and behold it was 6 pm. Factory management was breathing down our necks to get the system back online so the could turn on production, my boss was calling me frantically trying to find out what was going on, the technicians in their explosion proof garments were out in the 100 degree heat dehydrating, and I was running around trying to manage the situation.
Luckily all finally came to a resolution to the point where I could go home, although they are probably still working on it, but they were able to turn on the back-up system to at least get the factory running while they fixed the leaking gasket. The day was saved and life goes on.
So that was pretty much my excitement for the day, i'll keep you posted if anything else interesting happens.... until then
peace!

Splash
As usual splash was this weekend, and of course not without it's drama. Needless to say I had a great time though. It started friday night. I went out to the club with Matt and Kris and saw a lot of familiar faces. Then spent the night at Craig's and saturday morning, woke up and headed out to the lake.
So I suppose I'll start with the dramatic parts:
We get out there and to my suprise I didn't see Joe, or Roger and James. After asking around Eric told me that apparently Joe had bronchitis, which didn't explain roger and james not being there but oh well. I wasn't able to camp out for the weekend like usual b/c I had to work today and Joe usually goes out all three days and stays out. There would have been no way for me to get back to the marina. So late saturday afternoon, Joe, Roger and James showed up in their boats and pulled in and anchored. after a while joe came over to visit the boats I was on and when I went to ask how he was doing he said, "stay away from me." My first thought was that he didn't want to pass off any germs....but then I asked, "is it the bronchitis?" he said, no, and that he didn't want to talk to me. I'm like, wtf...
so anyway we have had our problems in the past but I honestly have no clue what brought this on. needless to say though I was kindof upset. Not long after that I check my phone and it has a text from Joe... it said, "that's the last time I invite you anywhere"...
well to be honest I was pretty insulted, first he tells me not to talk to him like I'm some sort of drugged up whore, then he bitches at me for not coming on the boat this weekend...well, I responded in kind.
I told him to go fuck himself. he had obviously deleted my number b/c he responded with, "who is this" even though I'm sure he knew exactly who it was. Well, you know what Joe, fuck you again. Last time he had his man-period he did this. well, this time I can play too. So I deleted his number and blocked him on every site I know him on. So honestly, I'm finally doing what I should have done ages ago, disconnecting from him completely. He is an ass and has done nothing but take from me without giving anything in return.
There was plenty more drama, sunday night I thought my iphone was at the bottom of the lake but it turned out I had left it on the boat and my friend Jack gave it back to me later <3. That turned out good. Let's see....sunday Craig's boat wouldn't start....that kinda sucked and I felt bad for him b/c I know he really wanted to go. I guess the only other thing was sat night.
My ex Rob was there and we were getting ready to pull away from the cove to go home. David H, our mutual friend, was looking for him so they could swim back to shore but he couldn't find him. We looked everywhere but no sign. The last place anyone saw him was on the boat from Dallas called Naughty Boys...who's owners are famous for their shady escort business. So needless to say everyone was pretty worried, but Craig had to get the boat back to the dock so we left....
well when I asked Rob about it just now he said mine, and everyone elses concern was irrational b/c we had no reason to worry...well, he's kind of an ass hole but whatever...that's pretty much it on the drama....
The fun things:
So saturday night on the way back Kris and I decided to ride the tube back to the marina. lol...oops...it was so choppy that the 20+ minute ride left me bruised and scraped..but it was so much fun. there was one point when we were both completely airborne. lol.
saturday night I went to the clubs with David and Jeff. Two really really cute boys from dallas and we had a lot of fun. I really like david...too bad he doesn't live here. :(
I also had a blast in general spending time with Craig, Kris, and Matt. I hope to do it again soon.
Today I worked and met David and Jeff for a movie and drinks at 2 b/c my boss let me leave early b/c it is a holiday.
I can safely say that all in all it was a pretty good weekend. Let me know what you thought of it if you were there!!
So I suppose I'll start with the dramatic parts:

What a week
sigh...I'm glad it's over.
Where to start. I suppose it wasn't this week but last week when I found out that my dad has T-cell lymphoma. Not entirely sure of the extent to which he has it but we should hear from the doctor within a few more weeks. He's pretty optimistic as is the doctor so I guess I'm not entirely worried but needless to say it's hard news to take.
On monday this week we went through a round of layoffs at work. It's been a pretty hectic week in that regard trying to figure out exactly how to restructure our team to cover the entire plate of responsibilities with one less person. Interestingly enough it ended up giving me more responsibilities and program ownership that actually involves what I went to school for. Basically we ended up losing an environmental person. So we are now down to 4 including me which means I am now changing responsibilities. My old responsibilities are being delegated out among the staff and I will be the new lead on Air Emissions, Storm Water, Industrial Wastewater, and Risk Management. I'm excited about it but it is definitely going to be a large learning curve to overcome. I figured I'd have at least this coming week to move my stuff to my new office in Oak Hill, but my boss informed me friday morning that I needed to be moved by monday afternoon.
With that being said Austin and I have also decided to move away from downtown. It's just too expensive and in an effort to save some money for a house we are going to be looking at renting a house in Southwest Austin somewhere. We found some houses twice the square footage of our apartment for about $600 a month less. which will help me start saving money. Not to mention I'll be a lot closer to work so I'll be spending less in gas. Either way you slice it there are obviously some big changes coming up.
So I know I promised you an update on that guy...there isn't much to give sadly. Nothing really has changed which is fine with me, but if it keeps up at this pace to be honest I'm going to get a little frustrated. I figured I'll give it a week or so and if it doesn't seem to be going anywhere then I'll have to say something.
Anyway that's about it for now...until next time...cao

So I met someone...
So I wanted to give you an update. I met someone...well actually I didn't just meet them really...I have actually known him for quite sometime.
He's very cute and very smart, and funny, easy to talk to ...pretty much just amazing.... I've known him for a while through some mutual friends and I guess just a few weeks ago at splash was when I really hung out with him a little more. So we seem to have hit it off. Last weekend we spent a lot of time together and we went to a movie sunday night. I'm not really sure what to think of it yet but I'll def keep you posted. At this point I can't say yea or nea to dating him. I just need to explore the situation. I think he likes me and I like him, I just don't want to jump into anything. It's been a hectic year so far and as I'm about to explain...it's going to get worse...
Work:
So work has been pretty hectic, I'm just now coming into my new role and despite the challenges things have finally reached a steady state....well until yesterday
I got to work in the morning and I had a page from my boss that read:
"FYI, AUSS/EHS is having a round of layoffs this morning, I just want to let you know that we have finished and I plan to meet with everyone this afternoon to discuss the impact to our team"
Well in short AUSS/EHS is our organization/department at Freescale. It turned out to be one of my fellow environmental coworkers. It's a big disappointment and I'm sad to see her go but there isn't anything I can do bout it. Sadly these things happen. I met with my boss today to discuss how that would impact me. We have gone from 5 to 4 environmental team members and I am one of them. Up until now most of my responsibilities have not been at all related to my degree...that's changing soon. I've been managing Austin wide responsibilities while commuting between my two offices. I will no officially inherit the Air, Wastewater, and Storm Water programs at the Oak Hill Site. This means I will be permanently moving my office there and I have to divide up my current responsibilities among the rest of the staff.
This poses a unique challenge as I now have an ENORMOUS learning curve to overcome, several thousand environmental regulations to be familiar with, and three new programs of compliance to learn. This drastically increases my responsibility and liability for my actions. If I fuck up, the factory gets shut down...that's a big weight to carry but I'm excited...and if you were wondering...that is going to be my arguing point for a promotion/raise coming here in the next few weeks with my mid-year PM review.
It will def be interesting to see where things go. I'm glad I get to work at Oak Hill as it is a more social environment and the staff is closer and all friends with each other. The only sad things are is 1. I lost a friend, and 2. due to other layoffs the cutest guy in the whole Oak Hill office is now moving to Ed Bluestein :( oh well...
So I guess that's about it for now. I'll be working my life away for the next few months to get into the swing of things so don't expect much out of me for a while..
until then happy hunting!

Splash
Well I must say this splash was a lot of fun. it wasn't nearly as crowded but I still had a blast. Spent the first day on the boat with Kris, Rob, Eugene, Matt, and Craig. It was nice to get to hang out with Rob Con, I hadn't seen him in ages and although it was tense/awkward at first spirits seemed to lighten up as the day went on. I had a long talk with Joe and things seemed to clear up at least. I'm glad we aren't mad at each other but it's still going to be a challenge to define our friendship in a way we both enjoy/benefit.
I had a great time hanging out with Kris, and matt seemed to really take a liking to me. I've always thought he was pretty cute but honestly had never considered much else. He's a nice guy though so who knows. Of course living in florida doesn't help the situation much but whatever.
Sunday was fun as well. We went back out and tied off next to Dwayne again. I drank a bit too much as I ended up vomitting everywhere. :( luckily everyone took really good care of me. I met this guy Rob brought with him that I had met on manhunt a few weeks ago but didn't recognize him. he's cute but I didn't get much of a chance to talk to him so I got his sn today and hopefully I can get to know him. seemed like a nice guy.
well, that's about all the update I have for now. I'm about to go to bed cuz I'm still pretty exhausted from the weekend. Peace out!

long time no post
So, I know I don't post very often and I'm sorry. This semester (which is almost over) has been such an emotional roller coaster for me I don't even know what to think. My life has changed so much in the last four months. I've gone from shyly coming out to my best friend sara cloud through a text message, to having dated two guys and now I have a boy friend whom I'm just head over heels for. Rob is so amazing I just can't wait to get through the week to spend the weekend with him. So I've recently gotton an internship with freescale, as you may know. I've signed a lease at longhorn landing appartments off of riverside. maybe not the best, but definately the cheapest fully furnished appartment money can buy that close to campus. I'm so happy to finally be moving out. It's so hard living two different lives, pretending to be straight at home, then being myself (which I am still discovering) around my friends. I have been neglecting several friends which kind of sucks but ya'll understand that being in a relationship is a time commitment. I guess I finally feel like everything is right in the world. I finally feel like i'm being me and it is great. so that being said...here's the new deal...
Last weekend was great. Friday I brought rob over to the house and we hung out in the south ATX for a while after shopping that afternoon. It was nice to have Rob over, but it sucks when I have to lock my bedroom door and hide my feelings when I'm at home. needless to say we won't be coming to my house anytime soon. I love being at his house because even though we don't overly flaunt our relationship, his parents know and respect our privacy at the least. So that saturday I took rob and my friend daniel to a party on campus, it was the mello Heaven and Hell party. There was over 100 pple there and to give you some idea...4 five gallong gatorade coolers filled with liquor so you could walk up with a shot glass and push the little button to dispense your shot...a 55 gallon trash can full of trash can punch...emptied before 1am...Iwas DD so I couldn't drink too much but it was just amazing! I took daniel and Rob home, daniel was drunk beyond beleif and got sick after I dropped him off. I brougt rob back to my place and he spent the night again. the next morning I took him home and ended up being WAY late for work, partly because I didn't realize I was schedualed at 10am, and partly due to traffic. It was ok because I have the coolest boss in the world, although I havn't seen him in like forever so it totally sucked that I didn't get the chance too. Last week was fairly uneventful. I spent the week working on lab reports and studying for an exam. It was one of those exams where I felt like I did horribly, so I probably did well...ya know what I mean.
hmmm...so what hapened this weekend. Thursday I had my exam then went to rob's house that afternoon. Rob and I hung out and camped out in his back yard in a tent, kinda goofy but soooo much fun. somehow friday I ended up getting a virus that just killed my computer so I had to bring rob to my house that morning to get my windows disk and reinstall windows. that took a while but it was just nice to get to spend so much time with rob. I ended up skpping all my classes yesterday, but being it was good friday I don't think it really mattered. We were up till like 4am this mornign playing roller coaster tycoon and wathcing ab fab. then we slept till noon, had breakfast, and I helped rob move his furniture so they could have the carpets cleaned. I've been home since 5pm, I cooked fillet minot and shrimp for dinner for the family and I have church plans tomorrow. What really sucks is I havn't seen rob since 4:45pm this afternoon and I already miss him tremendously. We have mall plans on thursday this week, which is the only thing making the week bearable. Things are geting busy now too.
I have a poster presentation on my semester research coming up in about two weeks, three weeks from now I have a paper due. I have a lab report due monday and another due a week from monday. I have a semester project due in two weeks, and on top of that I have to attempt to make family time. I am hoping that I will get to see some friends this week so if you want to meet just call me, I'd love to hang out. I move out on May 15th!!! I am so excited I just can't even wait...
so anyway until next time y'all, remeber, one night stands are fun, but syphillis lasts forever.

weekfinished update
first off I thought I would say that due to copyright laws, I had to make the subject as you see above. So this week/weekend has been great. I got a job offer from freescale semiconductor here in austin. I spent the weekend at Rob's and then went to a party saturday night. This party wasn't big, but I got really fucked up and then sunday morning, amidst some "wrestling" Rob asked me to be his boyfriend. I couldn't be happier and I am very excited to not be single after a long dry spell! So I had an absolutely amazing weekend. I took an exam friday that I am pretty sure I got a 100 on, I had coffee with a friend who I havn't seen in a while. Finally to top it all off, my favorite, and the most badass boss ever, has returned to Circuit City south side...woop woop. I am really excited to have him back, even though it's only until the end of the semester being is I have a 12 week internship full time. he did say that I could come back for the fall/holidays as a temp so that is good. I will really miss the circuit, although, I have full intentions of keeping in touch with everyone after I leave.
The best thing about staying in Austin this summer is that I will be here for my 21st birthday, and I can afford to move out which I intend on doing mid-may. I hope to move up to riverside, although I need to find a roomie!
anyway my sis just made me some chocolate covered strawberries so I must be going...until next time!

Happiness
Well, I must say.
Friday (yesterday) was so amazing I don't even know where to start. So i'll start at the beginning.
Well, I was up pretty late (till 230ish), and when I woke up I felt pretty tired. I went to school and went to class, which as usual was pretty uneventful. I turned in homeworks, took quizes etc. After class I went and ran some more simulations, which so far have come up inconclusive. Now the day gets fun...
So I left campus at about 2pm and went up towards pflugerville. I was supposed to meet Rob on campus for our friday date, but it kinda fell through when he couldn't get a ride. So instead I went up to his house. On the way, of course, I get stuck in traffic. It took about 45 minutes to go 3 miles, then as soon as I passed the wreck, it was smooth sailing. When I got to rob's we made some of his patented bean dip that was absolutely to die for. After that we sat down and played video games and just had a great time.
Later that day we decided to go to the park. We got a frisbee and this really goofy disc thing and just played around for a while. We skipped rocks and walked around the pond until it got dark. We then went to another park and met some of Rob's friends, Bethany, and Cacey. We had fun playing hide and seek in the woods until all of us got cut up from the sticker bushes. After that we played lava monster (I love kids games dont' you?) for a few hours and finally went to Taco Bell for dinner. After dinner we went back to the park and spent some time with a group of people from all different ages and schools. Rob and I went swinging and then had a little chat about being really tired. Rob asked if I wanted to stay over at his place and I was so excited. We went back to his house and watched queer as folk for a while.
Finally we were both so tired and just went to sleep. I had a hard time sleeping on this twin bed with Rob, and it was sort of uncomfortable. Then, I don't know who started it, but the cuddling began. We cuddled for probably 8 hours on and off, and I must say I slept like a baby in his arms. It was so great. I woke up at about 10am and told Rob that I should be going. he muttered nooooo...and then I ended up staying and cudling some more until about 11am. I finally got up and came home.
Well, of course, this morning, I get about half way home and not only is SXSW traffic a bitch, but there is a GIGANTIC wreck on IH35. It took me FOREVER to get home again...That's ok. the gas cost was totally worth an amazing night with rob. things are really going great and I am happy. Monday we're going to the zoo, and after that to my house for a potential party.
So that's, news for now. I hope y'all had fun reading. cuz writing it just put a huge smile on my face. Anyway I am cleaning the house and doing yard work today for the spring/relatives that will be visiting so I am pretty busy. Ya'll keep it real...

wassup
Well,
went jogging today, twice around the neighborhood. I feel great. I am uber excited cuz me and Rob are going on another date friday afternoon. I asked him yesterday and he thought it was a great idea. Other than that nothing is really new. I am working on getting access to the super computer on campus so that I can start running simulations sometime this and next week. went jogging today, twice around the neighborhood. I feel great. I am uber excited cuz me and Rob are going on another date friday afternoon. I asked him yesterday and he thought it was a great idea. Other than that nothing is really new. I am working on getting access to the super computer on campus so that I can start running simulations sometime this and next week. Long time, no talkie talkie
Well, I havn't posted in a while but I have some updates. The guy that blocked me on aim, myspace, and facebook; as well as never spoked to me after we met at spider house about 4 weeks ago, txt msg me yesterday. It was about 1am, and I got a random text saying, I love that song on your myspace. I replied "who is this." He wrote back, "matt". Of course, not remembering who that was, I then asked, "matt who" He replied "happytragiclife". I knew immediately. I was amazed. After a few hours I got on aim, and we talked for a while, reciting song lyrics, and him blaming himself for our friendship fallout, me blaming myself. It was akward but it made my entire week. I am really happy he is talking to me. On another note I went on a shopping date last night. I had so much fun with this really cute, nice, smart, caring, down to earth guy. We then went to B&N and got some coffee and looked at books and talked. Wow, it was so nice. I chatted with him online last night as well, and we are both in agreeance that we will definately be going it again. This was actually a date, i'm pretty sure, and we had a blast. I just thought I would say, I'm in such a good mood today because yesterday was a really happy day for me.
On a sad note, my boss LordValek is no longer working at the same location with me :(. It really sucks, he was alot of fun and I really enjoyed his company. We are gonna still hang out though cuz I think he's awesome. Anway Other than that things are the same. I feel amazing from working out again, work and school are both going well. Everything seems to be lining up this semester.

Life, or something like it
Anyway, don't ask me why but I have been very bi-polar the last few days. Up and down and up and down. It's kinda funny but last night after I posted that blog i started to feel like shit again. Then today I'm fine. Who knows...I'm just needed some good old fashioned lovin is what I need. anyway I'm pretty bored right now. I figured I would spend some time online before I go to bed at 12ish. I tried that last night and after about an hour of 'counting molecules' I still couldn't sleep so I took a tylonol PM and that helped. I'm a little tired today but I got alot of work done. I'm looking forward to some piano tomorrow and maybe a party this weekend. Anyway that's all for now. peace out homies.
